nightlife

The nightlife in El Salvador is concentrated mainly in San Salvador. The hottest traditional nightspots in San Salvador are concentrated in the Zona Rosa area and the Boulevard de los Heroes. Both of these places have a lot of bars, restaurants and nightclubs. While the Zona Rosa mainly caters to the young crowd with its live bands and discos, the Boulevard de los Heroes caters to the mellow crowd with its classic Salvadorian music and live Mariachi bands. If you want to reminisce on the El Salvador nightlife of the 80s or 90s you can still do that at some of the upscale restaurants in the Zona Rosa. La Luna is one notable bar in the Zona Rosa area that is worth visiting. They have an excellent choice of food and funky activities such as live bands which sometimes even play reggae and jazz, film showings and really modern art exhibits. There are also nightclubs and bars (and shopping of course) in Basilea Mall, La Terraza (Sheraton Hotel), Las Terrazas (Multiplaza Mall), and Temptation Plaza.

If you want to dance then Señor Frogs is the place to visit. Located in the Zona Rosa area, the music varies from salsa to meregue and some top 40 stuff. The prices of drinks here are reasonable and they put popcorns on the table.

The Boulevard de los Heroes is also a popular place for people to hang out at night. Located in this area are malls, hotels, restaurants and bars which spell a whole lot of fun for tourists. The biggest mall in San Salvador, the Metro Centro, is located here.

A newer alternative to the Zona Rosa is the La Gran Via which is an entertainment complex and lifestyle center next to the Multi Plaza Shopping Mall a few miles west of the traditional center (El Centro) downtown area. Perhaps a bit more sterile but still fun for the whole family. But you'll also find dance clubs where international DJs perform like Carl Cox, Benni Benassi, BLANK & JONES, Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, and visiting club nights from Beatport and Ministry of Sound.

Other recommended spots in the Zona Rosa: Los Rinconcitos, Code/Mario's, Zanzibar, Chill Out, Tabú

Other recommended spots in La Gran Vía and Las terrazas : Llenya, El Alebrije, Stanza, Bliss, Mai Thai, Envy, Republik, El Alebrije
